Athletes have 150 hours to complete the grueling 205-mile course of the Tor de Géants race, held in Italy every September. With about a 60-percent finish rate, one of the major requirements for this race’s competitors is self-sufficiency; the course includes 78,700 feet of elevation gain and takes runners from altitudes of 1,000 feet up to 10,800 feet, through cities and over mountain passes.
This short video recap of the 2016 race provides a look at the challenges that competitors face on this course, including heavy snowfall, low visibility on mountain passes and technical terrain, plus the emotions at the finish.
Correction: The title originally stated that this race is in the Dolomites. In fact, it’s in a different part of Italy.
