Ann Trason is one of trail running’s most legendary figures. Among numerous other accomplishments, her 1994 course record at the Leadville Trail 100 (18 hours 6 minutes, second overall) still stands today.

In this video, “15 Hours with Ann Trason,” by Billy Yang, Trason talks about running as a child, her initial reaction to ultrarunning and her mixed feelings about Chris McDougall’s bestseller Born to Run, which includes a section about Trason and the 1994 Leadville race. (Trason says that the book had a positive impact in that it “got so many people into running,” but what McDougall wrote about her is “great historical fiction.”)
