The Piatra Craiului Marathon, in Romania, has been going on for 10 years, and it’s clear from this video why it’s stuck around. Starting out in town and then passing through rolling farm country, the race soon climbs into the stunning, and stunningly technical, Piatra Craiului mountains, with steep uphill grades and rope-worthy downscrambles.

Adding to the fun are enthusiastic onlookers who make noise any way they can, including a few curious canines, and panoramic mountain views—not that there are too many places where racers can take their eyes of the ground.

The truly technical stuff begins a little after six minutes into the video, but don’t miss the race start, complete with a local blowing a starter’s horn taller than she is.
