For a week every August, the Burning Man Festival turns a dusty plot of Nevada desert into one of the country’s quirkiest locales, complete with stuffed-animal dissection workshops, giant alien sculptures and “art cars” made to look like flaming octopuses. So it should come as no surprise that the Burning Man Ultramarathon is one of the country’s quirkiest 50Ks.
This video, shot by Ryan Van Duzer at the 2013 race, provides a glimpse into the craziness. Van Duzer, in star-spangled race attire, comes in second, in 4:10—but not before bouncing on a trampoline, declining a drink of whiskey and holding several impromptu dance parties with costumed onlookers.
