On August 29, ultrarunner Christof Teuscher began an assault on the Oregon Desert Trail, an 800-mile route of sagelands, sand and scraggly pine forests with few reliable water sources and a good deal of cross-country travel. He planned to finish in 17 days, halving the current fastest known time for the trail.
Running fully self-supported with a heavy pack, accessing cached water and food along the way, Teuscher made it 371 miles in 9 days before quitting with debilitating Achilles inflammation. In this video, he chronicles the ups and downs of his difficult journey.
