New York resident Ron Heerkens Jr. has been a trail runner, and a recreational photographer, for many years. When injury struck a few years ago, he decided to turn the lens on his fellow trail runners and, ultimately, to capture the essence of trail running on the east coast. The Beast Coast trail film series is the result.
The six-part film series will release over the course of the next year, each film focusing on a specific person or event within the east coast trail running community. “I wanted to share about the people the places and trails of the east coast. I’m from Rochester, New York and we have a pretty big trail running scene in the area. I always feel like there is a lack of ‘East Coast’ out there, and I felt this would be a great project to take on. The underlying focus is just to show who we are and what we love to do.”
Episode One follows Daven Oskvig through the Oil Creek 100, a Pennsylvania ultra that takes place on a chunk of land that was once host to a booming oil operation in the the mid 1800s.
