Altra Lone Peak 2.0

  • $120
  • 11.4 oz
  • 0mm heel-to-toe drop

The Lone Peak 2.0 is built to accommodate the shape of your foot without feeling cavernous or clumsy (chief complaints with the model’s earlier two versions). Ample width through the midfoot and forefoot and a zero-drop design are paired with a generous amount of cushioning in both the sole and upper, a compelling mix for runners seeking a natural feel, but unwilling to sacrifice protection on nasty terrain.

Also improved over earlier models is the tread. Although less aggressive than other shoes on the market, the slanting lugs of the Lone Peak 2.0 give decent purchase on all but the slickest rocks and are a big improvement for a company that is usually conservative with tread design.

Best For:

  • Dry conditions, as the abundantly-cushioned upper doesn’t shed water well
  • Wide-footed runners
  • Fastpacking or multi-day events on harder surfaces
  • Flatter terrain (the roominess can cause toe-stubbing on steep descents)

How It Fits:

  • Wide through the midfoot and toebox
  • About 1/2 size small in length

Tester Rave:

  • “The toe box is nice and wide. I have a hard time going back to my other shoes after wearing these because my toes feel constricted in any traditional tapered toe boxes of other brands. But who wants to take off their Altras anyway? Only sandals can be more freeing and comfortable.”
