Trail runners just want to have fun. Photo: Gregg Gelmis. See full gallery below.
We trail runners pine for the wild and scenic places our sport takes us, from races of all distances across the globe to our favorite three-mile backyard jaunt, from fastpacking deep in the mountain peaks to dropping into the cleft of the Grand Canyon. And at Trail Runner, we have always strived to capture in images the inspiring trails and people of the trail community. To help develop aspiring (and even accomplished) trail-running photographers, over August 21 to 23, we hosted our first annual Photo Camp (sponsored by HOKA and SmartWool) at the remote Electric Mountain Lodge at 9,000 feet in Western Colorado.
Our diverse group of “Photo Campers,” instructors and trail runners hailed from Alabama, Montana, California, Colorado and Pennsylvania. On the seldom-trod trails between the West Elk Mountains and the Grand Mesa, we found common ground that binds us trail runners together, and came away with not only new friendships (the hot-tub party cemented some of those, but what happens at Photo Camp stays at Photo Camp, right?) but also this collection of fantastic images that we hope will inspire you to your next trail adventure.
