While nothing replaces good old whole foods, protein powders are a convenient way for busy runners to get in an added boost of nutrition. But with so many powders on the market, how do you know which one to choose?

For starters, be sure to do your homework on supplement brands. Protein powders are great options, but since the supplement industry is not well regulated in the U.S., it is important to make sure they are not tainted with unwanted additives. When researching brands, try to choose those that are Certified for Sport or NSF certified, which are 3rd party certifications extra steps that companies take for quality assurance.

Once you have your brand determined, there are some other considerations to take including use, taste, and dietary restrictions.
