Oboz Lightning

$110, 12.7 oz, www.obozfootwear.com

The Dirt. For the trail runner looking for durability and longevity over rugged terrain, the Lightning may be your shoe. Streamlined with a double-layer mesh upper and equipped with a full-length rock plate and a dual-density-EVA foam supporting the lateral and medial sides of the foot, this shoe offered substantial stability for overpronators. The Bridger Outsole (named after the Bridger Mountain Range) flexed naturally at toe-off and provided testers with outstanding grip on a variety of surfaces.

The Fit. The Lightning is best suited for low- to medium-volume feet. Because it is packaged with two insoles—you have the option of a supportive footbed (if you overpronate or want more support) or lighter, less structured insole (if you have a wide foot, or don’t want additional arch support).

Best For. This shoe is begging to be taken over the gnarly stuff.
