The Dirt. With design input from Max King, a top U.S. mountain runner, the Rogue Racer is named after the Rogue Valley Runners, a native trail-running group in Ashland, Oregon (See Take Your Mark August 2010, Issue 67). A thin rock plate shields your foot from sharp objects and a slim midsole and surprisingly cushioned forefoot and heel, give just enough protection to handle longer distances, without sacrificing a low-to-the-ground feel. A diamond-shaped low-profile lug pattern grabs exceptionally well. The open-mesh upper breathes easily and testers felt light and fast running in this shoe.
Fit. Fits medium- to wide-feet best with slight arch support. One runner reported feeling no pressure on his bunions due to the toebox’s open nylon panels. These shoes are so comfortable testers sported them for casual wear.
Best For. The shoe was tested on four to 15-mile runs on all types of terrain, and felt nimble over wet rocks, snow and hard-packed trail. It runs like a racing flat with solid traction and durability.
