You won’t misplace the shocking-orange Cabrakans in your closet. The techy-looking shoe is Mizuno’s Wave Ascend 4 (a great all-around shoe in its own right) on steroids, albeit at a scant weight gain of an ounce per shoe, featuring a beefed-up, pronation-controlling “wave” insert from the heel to midfoot. A couple of testers thought the heel felt a bit too elevated for their styles.

While the heel pocket is rock solid, the forefoot area is flexible, providing a very runable feel, and the laterally overlapping upper gave a locked-on fit. The Wave Cabrakan fits medium to wide feet, and is a great stability shoe at a modest weight, the Cadillac of this review.

TESTERMONIAL: “The sturdy `Wave’ plate in the heel makes the shoe very stable. Overall, it is a nice-fitting, lightweight stability shoe.” —Jeremy Duncan, Carbondale, CO
