What Gear Grayson Murphy Is Getting Dirty With

Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! Download the app.

World Mountain Running Champion Grayson Murphy lives and runs near Salt Lake City, Utah.  In fall 2019, Grayson won her first USATF National Title as the 2019 U.S. Mountain Running Champion and finished her season as the 2019 World Mountain Running Champion as well as the XTERRA Trail Run World Champion. When she’s not running, she works part-time as an engineer. Here’s the gear that Grayson is getting dirty with.

Saucony Peregrine

“This is the best trail shoe I have worn so far! The shoe has great traction and support for those technical sections but then is comfy and light enough for more buffed out trails. It feels like it can handle everything I throw at it.”

A 4mm drop and cushioned ride make this a do-it-all trail shoe.  PWRTRAC rubber lugs conform to the trail to make it a great pick for varied terrain.

Ultimate Direction Adventure Vesta

“I like to go trail running and be prepared for the unexpected so this hydration vest is perfect because not only does it have a great women’s-specific fit, it has tons pockets to safely carry all of my snacks, extra jacket, water, bear spray, & GoPro for the best adventures out there.”

Plus, it’s on sale! You can get the men’s version here. A quick and easy to use cinching system lets you adjust this vest on the fly, and external straps can hold trekking poles on the go. A front burrito pocket can hold flasks and a phone, while narrower front pockets lock small treats and snacks in place.

Nuun Hydration Tablets

$54 for 10 tubes

“As the weather is getting warmer it’s important to make sure I don’t get dehydrated when out for runs. I love popping a Nuun tablet into my water pouch for a great-tasting and hydrating treat while I’m out running. My favorite right now is the fruit punch flavor!”

Each tube contains ten tablets of electrolytes for tasty and fast hydration on the trails.

 Coros Apex GPS Watch

“While this certainly is a trail-specific product, I rarely leave my house without my watch. The Coros Apex has great GPS quality and even a “trail running” mode so I can make sure that I get the metrics that are important to me on trail runs. It also allows you to preload routes into the watch that act as a real-time map which is key when exploring a new trail system and making sure you don’t get lost!”

The Apex starts at $299 and is designed for rugged and data-rich outdoor adventure. The accompanying Coros app helps break down your run into readable data points that make it easier to track gains over time and train more effectively. Unlike many smartwatches, it doesn’t have a touch screen but you can toggle between screen and widgets with easy to use buttons to access the watch’s many functions.

Saucony Women’s Split Second 2.5″ Short

” These new shorts by Saucony are my everyday go-to shorts. They are super comfy with a quick-drying material and also look super cute with a back pocket big enough to fit a few snacks (can’t have too many snacks) and keys.”

A half-split allows for serious mobility and stride length when you’re picking up the pace on the trails. These shorts are perfect for the trail minimalist who’s looking for performance apparel.

Grayson Murphy partners with Saucony, Coros and Ultimate Direction.
