The Lake Sonoma 50 is known as one of the most competitive 50-milers in the country. The northern California race is a Golden Ticket event for Western States, and routinely attracts a deep field of competitors.

This year was no exception. Among the starters were two-time Speedgoat 50K champ Sage Canaday, former Lake Sonoma champ Dakota Jones, 2015 Western States third-place finisher Jared Hazen and recent trail upstarts Chris Mocko and Patrick Smythe. On the women’s side, former Western States champs Magdalena Boulet and Kaci Lickteig lined up alongside former Western States champ YiOu Wang and American 24-hour record-holder Courtney Dewaulter.

Jamil Coury, of Aravaipa Running and Run Steep Productions, captured the race at the front of the pack.
