Skyrunning, a form of competitive mountain running that emphasizes steep, technical lines up and down high peaks, has grown increasingly global in the past few years. (It made its U.S. debut in 2014.)
This short film, “Fast and Light,” produced by Salomon Running TV and The African Attachment, explores the sport through the eyes of its athletes, past and present. It begins by following the path of Marino Giacometti, an Italian mountaineer who founded the Skyrunning organization in the 1990s with a group of fellow mountain runners.
As the sport has evolved, more and more athletes have been drawn by the difficult mountain courses and top-tier competition, including runners like Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg, both featured in this video. “Fast and Light” brings these high-octane competitions to life, through stunning shots of races in iconic mountain ranges like the Alps and the Himalaya, athlete interviews and retro race footage.
