A Film About Love, Depression and Running in the Grand Canyon

Perhaps more than any other runner, Rob Krar has a deep personal and professional connection to the Grand Canyon.

It’s where, in 2013, at the outset of his now fantastically successful ultrarunning career, he set a blazing new Rim to Rim to Rim record (running from one side of the canyon to the other and back again). It’s also where he and Christina Bauer, now his wife, first fell in love, as they share in this gorgeous four-minute film.

“Chasing the Distance,” produced by Tandem Stills + Motion and the Sierra Club, contains stunning footage of America’s most recognizable natural feature, but also a moving tribute to its importance in the lives of these two individuals. Running, biking and camping on the canyon’s rim, Krar and Bauer talk about falling in love, Krar’s struggle with depression and what the Grand Canyon means to them.
