Get Ready for Fall’s Glorious Trail Running
High-elevation aspen leaves tinged yellow, lengthening shadows and the first windshield frost are the harbingers of fall here in Colorado—it is that time, and, with our October issue, we hope to inspire you to hit the dirt running during this precious season.
In Trail Tested, we offer our Fall Shoe Review, which features in-depth reviews of 11 new models, from superlight racers to snow slayers. Find your best fit right here.
Also highlighted in the issue is our annual Top Trail Towns exposé—your guide to eight of the best spots in North America to run trails, from Port Angeles, Washington, to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. In his feature story on Utah’s talent-packed Speedgoat 50K, Contributing Editor Rickey Gates offers a front-of-the-pack perspective on the brutal course, and the controversy that erupted over Kilian Jornet’s (of Spain) switchback-cutting tactics, which are widely accepted in Europe but generally not allowed in the United States.
Elsewhere in the issue, learn how to hone your mental game with yoga strategies, about which supplements really work and whether pre-run stretching is a waste of time.
Also, we would like to bid adieu to long-time Run Amok writer Garett Graubins, who will still be writing occasionally for Trail Runner, between his busy life as a marketing director, husband and father, graduate student and core trail runner. We thank him for sharing his longstanding insights and good humor.
Finally, we hope you’ll notice, our Art Director Randall Levensaler has spruced up the mag with a new modern design.
Happy Trails,
The Trail Runner Crew
