Photo Gallery: Faces of the 2017 Orcas Island 100

The Orcas Island 100 takes place on the largest island in Washington’s San Juan archipelago. The course is known for its beauty, weaving through dense old-growth forests with sweeping views of the surrounding coves, inlets and bays.

At the 2017 race, photographer Matt Cecill captured images of racers as they entered the mile 50 aid station. Their faces show that strange mixture of joy, exhaustion and pain that are part of the ultra experience.
