Inov-8 Bare-Grip 200

$110, 7.0 oz, www.inov-8.com

The Dirt. Already known for it’s low-profile and naturally flexing trail shoes, Inov-8’s Bare-Grip 200 offers a unique option. The Bare-Grip 200 has zero heel-to-toe differential and no midsole, but a sticky-rubber, cleat-like, aggressively lugged outsole provides excellent purchase on wet, muddy and rocky conditions. Testers said they felt agile and confident in the shoe. A rubber toe-protector keeps black toenails at bay and a mesh upper feels seamless and breathable.

The Fit. Fits low- to medium-volume feet, but runs about a half size large. Has no stability or shock-absorbing EVA for overpronators.

Best For. The perfect choice for barefoot-style running on technical, gnarly terrain, but the outsole is too aggressive for hard-packed surfaces.
