In compliance with local social distancing guidelines, I’ve been spending a little less time on the trails and a little more time on the bike path and the couch. While racing has taken a backseat, I’m focusing on enjoying a little extra time to mix things up with training and channeling a little more energy into purposeful recovery as well! Here’s the gear that’s helping me survive…and dare I say …thrive…in quarantine.
This certainly isn’t the fanciest bike trainer on the market, but it’s affordable and gets the job done without taking up too much space. This is a great beginner model for the runner who is bike-curious but still committed to non-pedal, bipedal movement. I love hopping on the trainer for a quick intervals and cross-training, and this little spinner is a great tool for any runner trying to stay in shape, and stay sane while sticking close to home. It works with any road bike and is really easy to assemble. This model is quite compared to other trainers I’ve tested in the past (sorry, apartment neighbors!) and is a great way to break up the WFH flow.
With an increase in time at home, I’ve had a chance to get my flow on a bit more than usual. Throwing down a towel on top of my yoga mat is easier on the joints (your knees will thank you!) and provides a better grip for a sweaty yoga sesh. I’ve been trying to stretch a bit outside for extra vitamin-D, and this towel is great to throw down outside for a quick and protected stretch in the sun.
This gun brings the massage to you! It’s as close as you can get to an actual masseuse at the moment and packs a powerful, relaxing punch. This high-tech recovery gun is just about the most customizable on the market. You can control the amount of pressure you want, and rotate between five interchangeable heads for the kind of release you need. With two hours of battery life, it can help to prioritize a little more active recovery while in quarantine.
These are the official shoes of quarantine. These slides have all the cush of a Hoka in comfy, sandal form. Pamper your feet and let them breathe in this ultra-light slides. I highly recommend these for your next marathon Zoom call.
We’re all cooking at home a bit more these days, and I’m a huge fan of this cookbook. These recipes strike a great balance between performance-oriented fuel and crowd-pleasing meals so that the kiddos don’t have to put up with another night of pasta-centric carbo-loading. Make flavorful food that fulfills your athletic needs, and keeps the whole family happy. These recipes are easy, fun, and really, really delicious.
Light, crisp, spicy and insanely sessionable, Sufferfest’s newest brew, Shred, is a tasty beer for any occasion. A dash of cayenne and honey make this refreshing beverage flavorful without being overwhelming. This brew makes a great addition to your next zoom happy-hour. On second thought, time is meaningless. Enjoy this beer, whenever.
