Wealing and Cooper win Beaver Creek Snowshoe 10K

BEAVER CREEK, COLORADO, JANUARY 10, 2010—Logan Wealing and Jeanne Copper claimed first place Sunday in the competitive 10K division in the first Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series event held at Creekside Park at Beaver Creek Resort. On a Colorado bluebird day, Sunday’s event hosted 378 participants, among the highest attendance in the 13-year series.

Logan Wealing was awarded the competitive 10K title, clocking in a winning time of 51:29 in front of his brother Seth Wealing at 51:37, while team Beaver Creek’s Bernie Boettcher took third place with a time of 53:44.
 
In the Women’s 10K division, Jeanne Cooper was awarded first place honors with a winning time of 59:07, slightly ahead of Beaver Creek’s Anita Ortiz at 59:29 and Cynthia Lauren Arnold taking third place with a time of 59:40.
 
The Men’s 5K East West Quest saw Simon Escorcia clock in a winning time of 30:02, as Ben Muehlethaler was honored with a second place finish at 31:00, and Timothy Lavin was awarded third place at 31:34.
 
For the Women’s 5K East West Quest, Kelly Escorcia claimed top honors with a time of 30:40, followed by Sarah Giovagnoli with a finishing time of 31:15, while Katie Hartmann took third place at 34:44.
 
Other races included the 100-yard “Blue Moose Dash for Cash” and the Kids’ 1K trot. Brian Welch and Myriah Blair were “Dash for Cash” champions and received $100 checks curiosity of Blue Moose Pizza at the post-race ceremony. In the Kids’ K division, Melisa Kreuger was awarded first place, followed by Brody Nielsen in second.  
 
Nearly 400 participants took to the starting line for the first race in the three-event series that continues Sunday, February 7 at Beaver Creek’s Creekside Park and wraps up Sunday, March 7 at Beaver Creek’s McCoy Park with the Jeremy Wright North American Snowshoe Championships.
